Since 1997, we have been bringing you the best Cajun and zydeco dance
bands possible. Last year 2003 was a banner year as we did six nights with such
touring bands as Geno Delafose (2), Lost Bayou Ramblers (1), Leroy Thomas (2),
and Bayou Seco (1). Additionally, we either assisted these bands in procuring
other gigs or minimally, publicized every event we were aware of. Although that
is impressive for any all-volunteer nonprofit organization, let me tell you
it's not always easy.
While we are finding venues sympathetic to our cause, oftentimes they are unable
to assume the financial obligations necessary to sustain a touring band. Therefore,
if we want a tour to succeed, we must be willing to assume a second night in
a venue not known for Cajun and zydeco music. Sometimes that's a long shot to
break even. The performance fees, ranging anywhere from $700 to $1,500, are
minimal, considering that it takes 18-25 hours of driving time. During that
time, the individual members are unable to earn any income until they arrive.
Besides performance fees, there are additional costs such as advertising, postering,
hotel rooms, meals, sound fees, hall rental and occasionally equipment rental.
A $1,500 performance fee can easily blossom into a$2,500 break-even point.
Therefore, we are using the series of Dikki Du and the Zydeco Crew show as
a fundraiser. This highly regarded zydeco band will be playing five dates in
Colorado: February 10-14, 2004. To make this tour work, we are co-sponsoring
Wednesday night's show at the Soiled Dove, 1949 Market
Street, Denver. On Friday night we are boldly trying a new location, the D-Note,
15432 Grandview Ave, Arvada (Old Towne Arvada. The Saturday night performance
will be our regularly scheduled dance at the Washington Park Methodist Church.
If you can afford a donation of $50, you will be on the guest list for either Friday or Saturday night. If you can spare $100, you will have two spots on the guest list for either night or individual access for both Friday and Saturday nights.
If $50 or $100 is unaffordable, feel free to donate an amount that's comfortable. All checks should be made payable to CFCZ and sent to the following address:
CFCZ
3331 South Dayton Street
Denver, CO 80231
Of course, all donations are tax deductible. CFCZ is a 501-3c nonprofit organization
and holds a Tier III status within the Scientific and
Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Regardless, if you can participate financially
or not, please attend all the shows possible and preferably with friends so
they can see what you've been enjoying. It's important for venue owners to see
how well we can draw
a crowd. Through the years, CFCZ has always been appreciative of your support.
